The Palm Drive Health Care District Board met on January 26th to review the Sonoma West Medical Center Business Plan, as presented by President/CEO Raymond Hino. After discussion, the Board voted to officially accept the Plan, and work with Mr. Hino and the Sonoma West Medical Center Board of Directors to open the hospital in the spring of 2015.
On January 19th the Palm Drive Health Care District Board met and accepted $500,000 for physical plant improvements requested by Sonoma West Medical Center to meet California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development requirements and to improve building aesthetics.
“As CEO, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our brand new website for the Sonoma West Medical Center, which is planned to open during the month of April 2015 in the former Palm Drive Hospital.
Sonoma West Medical Center is a new management group, hospital staff and medical staff, led by a locally appointed new Board of Directors, that is working tirelessly to open a hospital and medical center in Sebastopol.
The new medical center will return essential healthcare services to the West County such as a 24-hour Emergency Room while also adding new services that will enhance the health of our community and help ensure financial viability.
We invite you to join us in this exciting journey through social media, this website and in the community activities we will hold in the months ahead. I hope that you will find this new website to be useful and that you will refer back to it frequently for the latest information on services and key dates for the opening.
For those of you who want to get involved in the reopening of our hospital, help is needed and volunteer opportunities are available within the Hospital Foundation and Hospital Auxiliary. Please contact the Hospital Foundation through this website or call 707/823-8312.
Our community has made it clear that they want a local hospital that can serve West Sonoma County.
Something Wonderful is Happening!”

Sonoma West Medical Center received some nice publicity today in The Press Democrat about the progress we are making to open our hospital in April 2015. We are grateful to everyone who has been working so hard to keep this project moving forward. It is rewarding for all of us to receive this positive article on our progress.
Some highlights from the article include:
“As Palm Drive Hospital board approves funding for facility maintenance, the picture is looking brighter for spring reopening.”
“It’s clear that we are progressing and moving the ball down the field, and we’re working together,” said Dennis Colthurst, one of two new board members elected in November.
Colthurst and newly elected board member Dr. Richard Powers both opposed the April 28 closure of the hospital last spring and are part of what appears to be renewed momentum to rebrand and relaunch the hospital.
“I think it became clear to everyone involved that the west county community wants a hospital,” said Colthurst of the November election.
